You are putting important information out there. I am Canadian, thus have the benefit of healthcare, although wait times are far too long. We humbly exist adjacent to a very powerful, yet disintegrating USA, whose issues creep across the border.

We spend winters in Florida for the sunshine, warmth .For twenty years we have been wintering here, thus have experience in this culture, where the disadvantaged are left to fend for themselves. I’ve driven through the backroads of Alabama and Mississippi, a witness to the fact that very little has changed there.

Socialized medicine for all is a cohesive, bonding element in society. It unites Canadians; it unifies citizens of France and all European countries, along with government pension plans.

France is my beloved European country, which would be my choice if I were younger and more adventurous…..

Bravo to you for moving to Portugal and sharing your knowledge.

Hi Catherine, thank you so much for your comment!

I'm so glad you have great healthcare in Canada!!! I love how you put it: that the socialized medicine is "a cohesive, bonding element in society and unifies people"!!!! Unlike North America and the move toward hate mongering and dissension which is straight from a "playbook" and people there are falling for it, hook, line and sinker!

I hope that you're happy enough in Canada and am sorry to hear you can't get back to live in France. I know that for each person, no matter our age, there are a lot of factors to moving. I am almost 60 but have friends who have relocated in their late 60's and even 70's.

I agree that it's devastating to witness people suffering in the US, and you're right, a lot of backroads/rural areas are stuck "in the past" but also, there's a lot of grief/illness/lack of care there :( I was shocked when I drove through America to find/see some of what I did, especially in Louisiana and Arkansas.
